Desta-Kebbede Foundation

The Desta-Kebbede Foundation Inc. (DKFI) is an organization established to promote Trauma Awareness And Support Through The Arts (TAASTTA).  Its mission is to deliver empowerment workshops using various forms of the arts, journal writing, mindfulness and other wellness practices.

A donation of $5 or more would be much appreciated.

We believe that the lives of millions in the Great Diaspora have been affected as trauma survivors. Our vision is to put a spotlight on the hidden and taboo subjects of mental health and emotional disorders to remove the stigma.

Trauma survivors have a common bond despite their experiences being personal, as with child abuse or domestic violence, or communal, as with genocide. Our aim is to bring awareness on the many subjects of trauma survival and to provide a platform and venues for support through the arts, because the arts are effective in the healing process.

Our approach is intuitive, interactive, and inclusive.

We organize venues to practice the healing effect of the arts:

  • Movement and drumming

  • Drawing and painting

  • Journal writing

  • Yoga, Tai Chi, martial arts

  • Mindfulness meditation
